Google Local Business Centre

Make sure your business details are added to Google’s Local Business Centre as this feature is appearing before any listings.

Keyword Density

Realise no more than 3 or 4 keywords and have these repeating 1-2% within your content. Do remember to make sure your content still makes sense and is not waffle – Search engines do not buy from you, people do. Having primary keyword/s within your domain name will carry great weight. Make sure they also appear within your titles and put them in bold every now and then within your body text.

META TAGS

There are Title & Description tags which sit behind the code of your website. These are often what search engines choose to appear within their search results. Again, use keywords within them but also make sure they are tailored to the specific page, otherwise do not use at all.

LINKS – LINKS – LINKS

Google’s ‘pagerank’ is determined by the number and quality of links to your website. It is not the only thing Google uses to produce search results but is a key factor. Ask all your suppliers, friends with websites and so on to exchange links. Be careful of link builders as some can be negatively indexed by search engines and you can lose more by linking to them than you will gain from their link to you.

Anchor Text for Backlinks

Put your main keyword as your anchor text in every backlink you get.
e.g. html - <a href=”www.chingford-life.co.uk”>Chingford Life</a>
Also try modifying the anchor text on different sites.

Directory Submissions

Look for directory websites which have their homepage ranked at least 2 with Google and submit your business details. Remember to use the ‘Anchor Text’ advice given above.

Blogging, Forums & Social Media

Use them all! (Twitter, Facebook etc) With Forums, simply look to help people! They will want to look for your site after you have kindly given your expert knowledge out there for free on relevant blogs and forums. Be careful to read terms of particular sites as blatant backlinking will often result in being banned.

Pagespeed

Try to keep a balance between simple and attractive websites. Too much going on can cause websites to take a long time to load and therefore fall down in search engine’s ranking. Poor code will also do the same.

Advertise

There is no better way to generate traffic to your website than by external advertising. If someone has decided to look up your website for further information off the back of a flyer or magazine article they are much more likely to be interested in your business than random search hits. This is also a huge SEO tip as the more traffic a website gets, the more search engines will believe it is showing content they should be indexed highly.

Time

Many search engines simply require time to establish to build up ‘points’. The more a website is used over time, the more weight with the search engines it will generally get.
